The most memorable one in recent history is one that Barbara and I found at Belknap Hot Springs on the Mackenzie River..old and well made..feeding the cabins in the back woods.
It’s a very old simple machine..first used to mill flour perhaps. A bit like a windmill..instead of wind it uses the flow of water.
Pelton was probably the first to document it..I am not sure.
